I Walked by Jeannie Davis

I first encountered this poem at my first Relay For Life event, and it helped me deal with the loss of my aunt to cancer.  She was my best friend, and not a day goes by where I don't miss her.  My poem "Memories" is dedicated to her.

The poem below will always have a special place in my heart.  Though I cannot thank her in person, I am truly indebted to the author.  Ms. Davis, wherever you are, I cannot thank you enough.  Your words gave me the courage to keep going when nothing else could; for that, I thank you.

I Walked by Jeannie Davis

I walked around a track today;
I walked to help a disease go away.
I walked because there is a need;
I walked that bodies could be freed.
I walked to give a small child hope;
I walked to help someone cope.
I walked for a husband or a wife;
I walked to help prolong a life.
I walked with my head held high;
I walked for that one about to die.
I walked excitedly not demure;
I walked to help find a cure.
I walked for everyone to see;
I walked for you, I walked for me.
